A Simple Summer Solstice Ritual to Honor the Season

Happy Summer Solstice!

Today marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. It’s the turning point when the sun stands still in the sky, and it offer us warmth, abundance, and possibility. Our energy tends to be up, with social and physical activities peaking, and creative ideas brewing!

Whether you're soaking up summer sunshine or simply noticing the shift in energy, the solstice is a beautiful time to pause, reflect, and realign.

We’re honoring the cycle with a simple ritual you can use anytime, anywhere.

What is the Summer Solstice, Really?

The summer solstice (typically June 20th or 21st in the Northern Hemisphere) is when the Earth's tilt is most inclined toward the sun. It's the official start of summer. This time of year is associated with growth, illumination, and celebration across cultures.

From the ancient fires of the Celts to the sun dances of Indigenous cultures, the solstice has always been about honoring life, energy, and all that is flourishing.

So, why not take a moment to honor what’s flourishing in your own life?

Why the Solstice Matters Energetically

Energetically, the summer solstice represents a peak. It’s a moment when our inner fire and outer expression are most potent and present.

It’s a natural time to:

  • Celebrate growth: both personal and external.

  • Set intentions: that will serve to carry the momentum of summer forward.

  • Release what no longer serves: we’ve gotta let go of the things that drag us down regularly.

  • Reconnect: with joy, vitality, and clarity of purpose.

A Simple Solstice Ritual: Reflect, Release, Renew

You don’t need much for this one! Just yourself, an intention to be present, a notebook, and 15–30 minutes of calm.

Step 1: Find the Sun

Go find a good space outside to feel the warmth on your skin. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. As you swallow, imagine yourself swallowing the energy of the sun, letting that run through and warm your body.

Imagine the sun highlighting your path forward. Focus on clearing and energizing sensations in the body.

Step 2: Light a Candle (Or another form of fire)

Light a candle to symbolize your inner light. As it flickers, focus your vision on the flame and reflect on what you want to nurture this season.

Step 3: Journal It Out

Use the prompts below to connect with where you are NOW and where you're going.

Summer Solstice Journal Prompts

  1. What in my life feels most alive and abundant right now?

  2. What have I outgrown since the beginning of the year? What can I do to release these things, people, or places to invite in the next chapter?

  3. What parts of me am I ready to celebrate more this season?

  4. If the sun could speak, what would it want me to know?

  5. What’s one intention I want to carry through the next few months (something rooted in JOY, not pressure)?

don’t forget to celebrate

After journaling, treat yourself to something that symbolizes summer, specifically for you. It could be a walk, fresh fruit, a cold lemonade, a little dance party. This is your seasonal reset, let it feel good & intentional. Bring in the kind of joy that is just for you.

The summer solstice is a reminder to honor your own growth, to soak in the light, and to live a little more fully. It’s not about doing more. It’s about being more of who you are, and celebrating this current version of you.

Here’s to the longer days, summer sunsets, and the rooted intentions you’re carrying forward.
