Accessible and Affordable yoga retreats. The How & Why.
Yoga is a practice for all people. A space that emphasises mind-body unification, plus there’s an insane amount of mental and physical benefits. The best thing about it? It’s adaptable. Any single person can find themselves within a yoga practice.
With over a combined 10+ years of experience being yoga students and yoga teachers, we can both confidently say this practice is something that evolves with you, and will help you overcome numerous obstacles in your life. Sadly, this space can forget about accessibility and affordability.
Here at Rooted Renewal Wellness Retreats? We’re aiming to close that gap.
There is a strong correlation in relation to wealth and access to yoga. A study in 2022 found that 23% of adults with family incomes of at least 400% of the federal poverty level practiced yoga, whereas only 10.4% of those with incomes less than 200% of that level practiced yoga.
If you’ve taken a yoga class in person or online, or have had the chance to attend a yoga retreat you’ve felt firsthand how life changing this practice can be. If we truly believe in yoga as a path to wellness and unity, we must also commit to making its benefits more inclusive.
It's time to talk about why accessibility matters and how we can make yoga retreats more affordable for all.
Yoga retreats offer so much more than a getaway, they provide a space to reset, reflect, and reconnect. They can be deeply transformative, healing, and empowering. Each one of our retreats offer sacred silence, a time for you to do just that. Rest, reflect, and reconnect.
Having the gift of silence and stillness helps us when we have to go back to the real world and our current realities. We’re able to handle obstacles with more clarity, and confidence. And guess what? You don’t have to travel far to create this container.
#1 Pick a domestic and affordable location. When you find an affordable location, you don’t have to price your tickets super, duper high! Plus, it’s more affordable to travel domestically.
When we’re able to make yoga retreats more affordable, we call in a wider variety of people. When you have a wider variety of people attending a yoga retreat together, you get a bigger perspective. You deepen your connection to yourself and others. One of the pillars of Rooted Renewal Wellness Retreats; Connection.
#2 Offer payment plans! Better yet, make your pricing sliding scale. Breaking this down into monthly installments makes this more manageable for a lot of people, and will accommodate a variety of new friends into the yoga space and community you are creating.
We’re so grateful we were FINALLY able to gift someone a free spot at our upcoming yoga retreat The Pause. Leo, we are so happy for you and can’t wait to have you at your first of many Rooted Retreats!
We love to offer fun giveaways, and free breath and movement based challenges that connect you with yourself and the Rooted community. Follow us on IG to stay in the loop!
We do our absolute best to accommodate every person, and their needs. We’ve had complete beginners attend our yoga retreats, a variety of ages, and most recently had our first Rooted baby attend, little Cyan who is just over a year old!
As always, it all worked out exactly as it should.
#3 Make your retreat and spaces accessible by allowing all genders, shapes, and sizes to attend your retreats, and classes. Remember this practice is about feeling good, not specific body types. As a host and a teacher, research ways to modify, and adjust poses based on your group and students needs.
The way the groups comes together with love and support is something you cannot describe. I think it’s because we all know deep down we’re all deserving of the space that's being created, despite the differences.
This enriches the experience for everyone, creating deeper empathy, connection, and community.
In our fast-paced, overstimulated world, the need for rest, reflection, and reconnection is universal. So next time you're planning anything related in the health and wellness field, ask how you can make this more accessible to all.
Starting the conversation will always be the first step.
